Parent Education Groups
Another format in parental counselling is the so-called parental groups. A small group of parents of children of similar ages come together once a week or every fortnight and can discuss anything that matters to them in relation to their children.
The subject matter of the groups depends very much on the specific interests and needs of each group of parents. The counsellor initially introduces the subject and then facilitates the group interaction among parents.
The aim of the parent education groups is the safe and non-critical sharing of similar experiences among parents, the creation and strengthening of bonds between them, the support one can find in a similar natured group and finally the exploration of and experimentation on possible solutions to the challenges in their parental role.
